Garden Grill @ Epcot May 3, 2012

There were any number of reasons why we had put off eating at the Garden Grill for so many years.  The menu seemed pretty standard, we don’t have kids so we don’t typically do character meals, we tended to frequent “nicer” places to dine…  But over time, I really wanted to check it out, for a number of reasons – my growing love for Chip & Dale, the fact that I wondered about it every time I rode the Living with the Land ride (which I do a lot as it is one of my favorite attractions).  So for our most recent trip – we made reservations there for our first night at Walt Disney World.

D23 Fanniversary – May 20

On Sunday May 20, Derek and I made a day trip to Boston, Massachusetts to check out the D23 Fanniversary.  They announced this event a couple of months ago and it piqued our interest – particularly since the price was reasonable ($18pp).  I have been a member of D23 since the charter year, but, since we don’t live near Anaheim or Orlando, we haven’t been able to take advantage of most of the special events, so we thought we’d check this one out since it was relatively close by.  Plus – we have some good friends in Boston so we figured we’d make a full day of it and see our friends for brunch.

Barcelona – Exploring Chilean Wines Wine Dinner

One of the restaurants that we love in New Haven is Barcelona.  Great tapas, wonderful wines – who could ask for more?  Well – Gretchen, the wine director for all of Barcelona’s restaurants, periodically arranges wine or cocktail dinners.  A lot of the times, they’re held at the Barcelona Wine Bars elsewhere in Connecticut, but occasionally we get lucky and they’re held right here at the one in New Haven.  Last week, they held a dinner called “Exploring Chilean Wines.”

50 by 50

So – last year, a friend of mine was working on a 30 by 30 list.  She was in her last year of her twenties and she wrote down 30 things that she wanted to do before she turned 30.  This inspired me and got my juices flowing.  Now – I am well past the age of 30, so clearly I had to do something different.  I decided to do a 50 by 50 list – while 50 is the next big birthday for me, I still have several years left (just in my young 40s), so this would give me room to hopefully get 50 things done and to make them big, things that you really dream about.  Kind of like a bucket list – but with a deadline – I think that makes it more real.  If I want to get any significant part of this list done before I turn 50, I actually need to plan my life to do so.  I don’t know that I’ll get this all done, it’s a pretty ambitious list – but that’s okay – the shape of the list will head me in the right direction, doing the things I love:  traveling, challenging myself, building relationships, and continuing to strive to be a better me.

Victoria & Albert’s May 2012

Being big Disney fans, we have known about Victoria & Albert’s for years.  But – for a long time, we thought it wasn’t for us – too stuffy, not worth the money, who needs their own personal wait staff anyway?  But over the years, we’ve grown to enjoy fine dining more and more, and we kept hearing wonderful things about Victoria & Albert’s from friends.  So we finally took the plunge and made reservations to celebrate my promotion to partner.

Expedition Everest Challenge 2012

On May 5, 2012, Derek and I conquered the Expedition Everest Challenge and defeated the Yeti!!!  We first got interested in this race a little over a year ago.  We were heading to WDW for the D23 Scavenger Hunt and our ideal plan was to do both the D23 Scavenger Hunt and the EEC, but we couldn’t stay for the 10 days that we would need to, to be able to do both – so we chose the D23 Scavenger Hunt.  Come January 2012, my Team Peacock running teammates convinced us to plan another trip to the World for this year’s EEC.  So we were in!
