New Year’s Resolutions

Well 2013 has come and gone.  It was an up and down year – some amazing high points, but a lot of sad things as well.  2014 is just beginning and I am looking forward to what it will bring.

I have been thinking about what resolutions to make.  I don’t always make resolutions, but I generally like to.  So here’s my current thoughts for the year:

  1. Explore Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Southwest
    • Try a new restaurant at least once a month in Albuquerque (>12 total; Update:  El Patron, Sandiago’s, Farina Alta, Bien Shur, Zinc, Streetfood Asia, Elephant Bar, St. Clair’s Winery & Bistro)
    • Volunteer for at least two different organizations
    • Visit/taste half of New Mexico’s wineries – the wine trail map lists 51, but some of them are branches of the same winery – so I’m thinking about 20 -24 should do the trick (Update:  Milagro, Acequia, Matheson, St. Clair’s, Casa Rondena, Heart of the Desert, Amaro, Gruet, Luna Rossa)
    • Explore something new in the area once a month (e.g., visit a local  museum, visit a pueblo, do a foodie tour of Santa Fe, etc.) (Albuqerque Botanical Garden, Las Cruces, adult night at Explora, talk and Friday Fractals at Museum of Natural History and Science)
      • Aim for four of those (one a quarter) to be something that explores the broader region (e.g., a trip to a location elsewhere in the Southwest) (Las Cruces January)
  2. FItness
    • Train again to try to qualify for the Boston marathon
    • Stay at the same weight or less
    • Run more miles in 2014 than you did in 2013 (1354 miles in 2013)
  3. Friends – prioritize seeing people that are important to you
  4. Reflection and gratitude
    • Maintain a “good news” jar
    • Establish a regular journaling practice – at least 3-4 times per week
